Monica Ybarra was born and raised in Douglas, Arizona. She is currently a member of AmeriCorps and assigned to the Douglas and Bisbee Police Departments under the Police Assisted Addiction and Recovery Initiative. In this role, Monica assists law enforcement by creating non-arrest pathways for individuals struggling with substance use disorder.

Monica is a project coordinator at the Douglas Amistades office within the Douglas Police Department. Monica works with Project Manager Alex Bonea on Prevencion Sin Fronteras (Prevention without Borders) in the Douglas community. This program is focused on Trauma Informed Care in the community to educate and prevent marijuana and vaping among teens and young adults. The program also teaches children how to manage stress, and educates adults on how to recognize when a child is struggling and what to do to help.

Monica is currently studying evidence-based programs to implement in community schools to help improve the lives of our children. She is also focused on continuing her education and advancing in the prevention field.
