Estefany Nidez-Acuña was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona. Ms. Nidez-Acuña grew up with in the Sunnyside Unified School District, SUSD, where she attended Summit View, Challenger Middle School and graduated from Sunnyside High School in 2016. After graduating as a Blue Devil from Sunnyside H.S. she later went on to becoming a Sun Devil at Arizona State University. While attending ASU, Estefany received a full-tuition from the Obama Scholarship, which provided opportunities for studying abroad through the CIEE Institute. She graduated in December 2020 with a BA in Liberal Studies.
Before joining the Amistades, she has experience with youth empowerment and leadership. Her involvement with TRiO Upward Bound as a class coordinator, encouraged high school students to get an early start in college preparation and success. Estefany has served as a classroom support assistant at Elvira Elementary School through the COVID-19 pandemic providing encouragement and support through online learning.
In her current role as Project Coordinator with Amistades, Estefany will be empowering young Latinas through the Entre Mujeres program by advocating self-confidence through cultural embracement. She will use her own experiences as a first-generation college student to motivate undergraduates’ participants with in the Avanzando through College to break through cultural boundaries. Additionally, will educate families about the dangers of substance abuse, acculturation of ancestorial trauma and behavioral health problems through the Familia Adelante Program.
