In partnership with the Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation, the program targets at-risk racial/ethnic minority youth and young adults ages 12-24 primarily who identify as Latino, Native American, and/or Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning (LGBTQ), residing in the greater metropolitan Tucson area. The program uses evidence-based prevention interventions and environmental strategies to reduce use of substances and high-risk sexual behaviors, expand availability of information about substance use, HIV, and STI prevention education and early intervention services, and to build a high-capacity community prevention infrastructure in addressing substance use and high-risk sexual behaviors. Amistades provides the Latino expertise necessary to better serve the project’s target population by offering cultural competency workshops, culturally relevant educational events, and support for the co-implementation framework of the project.
